I am rather embarrassed that I never knew that Grand River Avenue, as hiway 16, crossed the entire width of my state. I have been on bits and pieces of it, sometimes apparently w/o even realizing it, but I never knew that it stretched all the way from Detroit to Grand Haven. I certainly do now. Fun book. Besides learning its total length I also learned about certain stops along the route that figure prominently in our state's history. Fun book. I like this series.

Of course, at the time, Nance had much the same thesis he does here--and he was speaking out when no one else (at least not in the media) was saying it. But then, in 2016, he didn't have that much to go on--some history, the U.S. intelligence statement in October, the various news reports and events showing Putin and WikiLeaks acting in ways that helped Trump and hurt Clinton, and his own instincts and analysis as a long-time intelligence officer. "The Plot to Hack America" was a book unlike anyone else's in the fall of 2016, but now he knows so much more, and can put the details and patterns together.And, unlike so many others writing on this subject (some currently on the best seller lists), Nance is not hesitant to say what he thinks the connection is between Putin and Trump and how it changed the 2016 election.The material is complicated--so many people, places and events to keep straight--but Nance writes well and lays it all out clearly--including the motivations he believes exist for the main actors. Agree or disagree with him, any reader should appreciate how Nance doesn't mince words. Here, for example, are the opening two sentences of Chapter One: "On November 8, 2016, Vladimir Putin became the first Russian President of the United States. What could arguably be called the greatest intelligence operation in the history of the world had been executed and the result was that the candidate Moscow had supported had won."That's pretty bold. What follows includes explanations of cyber warfare, Putin's efforts to undermine democracy in other countries as well as the U.S., Trump's leadership and character failings, Nance's view that the central idea of the Steele dossier (that Putin "has" something on Trump and is using it) is true, the many threads indicating conspiracy between Trump and Putin in 2016, and Putin's long range goals. For me, Nance filled in many things I wanted to know about, including what has happened in Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union--and how it's led to the rise of Putin, the former head of the KGB, as the autocratic president of non-socialist, non-democratic new Russia.Despite Russia's weakened economy (Russia really shouldn't be part of the G7, for example), Putin is making every effort to make it a major player on the world stage again (now, per Nance, succeeding more than ever with Trump's apparent cooperation). In two decades, he has consolidated his power and is now dealing with his 4th U.S. president although with a distinctly different relationship with Trump than anyone before him. When Putin told Trump to "meet in the Oval office with Labrov and Kislyac" last year, Trump did it. It was the first time they were allowed in the Oval Office since Russia invaded Crimea in 2014. Trump did it in secret, and made sure no U.S. reporters were present. Americans learned about it from the Russian photographer (spy?) who was allowed in.Trump admitted last month after the North Korea summit, that it was Putin who had told him to cancel the U.S. military exercises in Korea. Trump even told Kim Jung Un he would do it before he told U.S. officials, including the Secretary of Defense. The security of their operations abroad, the lives of their agents, and the very future of our country depend on this careful scrutiny and evaluation. It think their lack of transparency and dearth of information regarding their methods and operations will naturally foster distrust, and I have my own feelings we can't entirely trust them regarding our privacy.That said, their tireless duty in maintaining our national security is not in doubt and in that domain they have our best interest. Putin interfered with our election process, who is a menace to our democracy and the remaining true democracies in the world. I fear that his social engineering through misinformation and our lack of discernment to separate fact from various counter-narratives to sow confusion and animus has been successful. I know people who have gone back to their home towns who suddenly find themselves dealing with animosity instead of the hard-won common ground of time and understanding. It is disturbing to see the resurgence of the naked hatred of the other displayed so prominently. The United States as a divided nation and the dismantling of post World War II international liberal democracies will usher in a new and truly hideous world order. It is on the order of many countries losing their freedoms, many people being imprisoned and tortured, and the untold deaths in the world conflicts of the future. There is hope, but we must first listen dispassionately and attentively to the warnings and what we can do to counter it. It starts by reading and analyzing the information expertly detailed in this most important book by Malcolm Nance.

I am a horror fan and this book is more frightening than any other book I have read. AND IT"S TRUE and happening right before our eyes. I use to think trump was a dotard, but after reading this book I can see how he is working purposely to destroy America. His tariffs, immigration policies, the way he treats our allies and the UN--it all leads to destroying democracy. What makes this even more disturbing is the only reason trump is doing all this is to enrich himself and his family. We already know trump is a man without morals, but this is as low as a person can go. You can see how and why the republican party is complicit in his plot. According to polls, only 27% of Americans identify with the republican party, yet they are ruling our country. They are doing anything to make sure they stay in power and trump with his Russian allies are what they are using. Malcolm shows what I had suspected- that the NRA and evangelicals are a big part of this plot. This is a must read for every American that loves America. This is a must read for every person who claims to be a patriot.One point I would like to add: trump seems to be really bothered by the fact that the only way he won the election was to cheat. That's why he keeps bringing it up. Same way he says he never pays for sex. He seems to be bothered that people don't actually like him and find him disgusting--hence all the rallies. It's a weakness that is easily exploited by the Russians.

Robin Warshaw writes on social issues, medicine and health. This book was very educational and a must read for me, as I am a date rape and acquaintance rape victim multiple times, as well as an incest victim at very young ages. Anyone who has ever been raped or knows someone who has been raped should read this book, which includes just about everyone on the planet. The language is rough with a little profanity from the testimonials, but other than that, a must read for all people, especially young girls in elementary, high school, college and all women, especially if you are interested in helping rape victims physically, legally and emotionally and even spiritually. If you know someone who is going off to college or moving out on her own, recovering from a divorce or anything ~~ or simply because you love her, this is a book I highly recommend for you to give to her. It talks about date rape/acquaintance rape ~~ a subject that isn't talked about very often ~~ and you will find resources in this book to help a survivor recover ~~ or even to prevent a rape from happening. And I recommend young men reading this book too. It shows the other side of rape ~~ a man may think that a woman "teased" him and that she really wanted it ~~ but oftentimes, it leaves lasting scars ~~ not just on the victims but also on the rapists too. Both men and women need to be educated on what date rape is ~~ it is more common than people think.When a woman says no, a man is trained by society that she really means yes ~~ but that isn't the case. Rape is when a sexual act is committed against a woman's will ~~ even if she knows her attacker. It's downright disturbing and there are many women who have survived date rape. Did you know that "stranger rape" occurs very rarely but "acquaintance rape" occurs more often? Also, did you know that even if a woman stops dating a man, he can still rape her? There are all kinds of stories in this book that the author shares with the reader to warn them of this issue.This book will share with you how to recognize the danger signals and how to prevent a rape from happening. If it happens, there is advice on what to do next. It explores the statistics of numerous studies performed on this topic and it's downright scary. But there are people fighting it and so can you. Just read this book, and pass it on. I truly believe every woman going off to college or moving out on her own or even entering her teen years should have a copy of this. It shouldn't be a topic to ignore ~~ it should be talked about and shared ~~ it is a serious issue and one that every woman needs to be aware of.I have a young cousin going off to college and this is one book I would like to send to her. For all you moms, dads, grandmas, aunts, sisters, cousins, friends should think of the young women (and young men) in your family or circle of friends and think of how you should arm them with knowledge on how to prevent acquaintance rape from happening. But not only women need to read this book, men should too. They should sit down with their sons and tell them that "no means no." And that they should resist pressure from other men in raping a woman. Acquaintance rape is very damaging to women and to men as well. It wreaks havoc on the fragile fabric of society itself.Pick it up ~~ I don't think you'll regret it as one can never have too much information about a topic like this one.

I chose to rate this book with five stars due to the content.The book contains brief, or rated "G" , encounters from rape victims. You see insight into the problem of Acquaintance rape/ date rape. You see that it is bigger and more common than any other rape. This book provides evidence that some men are criminal in their actions and some genuinely do not have any idea what they are doing is rape or wrong. It covers the emotional trauma, experience, life changing, encountered by victims, and even the effects rape has on social circles (friends, family, etc.). This book deals with the rapists mind too, briefly, and details how this is a Social Problem that our nation, communities, colleges, workplaces, etc. MUST ACKNOWLEDGE and take action. You will read encounters that take place in the courtroom and gain understanding through empirical evidence to the non existence of justice to rape victims, especially those in Acquaintance Rape cases.As a victim:I truly never called it rape. Even in current therapy, I find myself unable to say the term, "rape". I never knew what to call it. I was young and as suggested in the book, I went through this alone, I did not report, which is common, especially for acquaintance rape. I read encounters that made me think, that triggered some thoughts, but it honestly was the easiest experience I have had in regards to thinking and understanding what happened. As a victim, who was 15 [and raped by a married man who was much older than me, and someone I was taught to trust], I was a little upset that there was no account that related directly to me, which is also a complaint of another reviewer. Unlike the other reviewer, I felt the need to be objective and found it easy to relate to the information provided, as the reactions were quite similar. I do not want anyone reading to think I am bashing the other reviewer because that is not at all my intentions. I think on a whole, that victims can gain some "sanity" or clarity in regards to their experience and utilize it a lot to RE-EVALUATE, in an objective way, the event itself and the actions before and after. I look at my situation completely differently than I did before. I would say this book was very encouraging, and really backed my thoughts on how vital it is that our society change it's view on sex and acquaintance rape. EDUCATION is vital and this book, although older, is a great start.This book was/is exceptional, and I truly believe should be a mandatory read in all colleges and even high schools and/ junior highs.

Required textbook, but I found I referenced back to it numerous times as I had to develop teaching plans for other classes. Good choice.

This is probably a good text book. I've read 3 chapters now and it is fairly readable. However, the pages are literally falling out of the binding of this brand-new book. So far about 60 pages have come out, and that's just from the 3 chapters. Not impressed with the production quality, which doesn't do the authors any justice.

The book itself is highlighted, as described. Annoying, but they said it could be. What I'm not happy with is that the book has rips in the cover, and arrived with some sort of food or dried coffee like substance all over the cover. Gross.

I've been using the book for less than a day for a paper I have to write and TEN, yes you heard that correctly, TEN pages have fallen out. No, I have not been throwing it or beating it, just simply, turning pages. I cannot talk about the quality of the content because I have nothing to compare it to, but the terrible quality of the textbook itself is a big distraction when trying to use it.

Information in the book followed my course well. I love that there is a e book portion that you can sign up for free. flash cards , highlighting and bookmarking available on the e book .

This publisher has released half a dozen books in this series, for various major (Mechanical engineering, civil engineer, chemical engineering, etc). As a result, this book contains a huge amount of material that's mostly relevant to the other exams. The chemical engineering specific portions are fairly thin, and could use more detail.In particular, the kinetics section was only 5 pages, 1 of which was a glossary page for common terms. It does a decent job of collecting useful formulas/equations, but I feel like the same content could have been presented in 1/3 the pages for 1/3 the price.Buy a used copy if you can get one, it isn't worth the full price.

You know, if you pay $250 for a book, you would probably expect quality. I have only been studying the content for a few days, so it is difficult for me to judge this too harshly, but see attached photo for what my book started to look like after about an hour of studying. This book needs to be a hard cover, plain and simple. Does Perry's come in a paperback? No. This book was meant to be a reference that you keep forever, not some cheap Sparknotes "Chemical PE Exam for Dummies."Unfortunately, you don't really have a choice. This has the best content for studying for the PE exam, so you kind of have to buy it. The publisher probably knows this. But I'm hoping that by giving it 1 star, they will realize that content isn't everything.Look, I get that a hard cover would make the book more expensive, and potentially super heavy. But this is basically unusable. You can't sell a book with a paper-thin cover that tears from CAREFULLY opening and closing it.

I purchased this book to use for studying for the PE exam. The examples have a lot of typos and the units aren’t always correct. I spend more time trying to figure out if the book made a mistake in its calculations because of the typos or if I made a mistake in my calculation. The solution to the examples are confusing and skips critical steps so they are hard to follow.

This was an excellent review manual for the PE exam. I used only this review book along with the practice problem and quick reference companion to study for the test, and passed the exam on the first try. I also use this as a great reference manual at work as well.

Seems to have the perfect balance of material. I've always found Perry's Handbook to be surprisingly un-useful in terms of understanding and setting up specific problems. This volume is much better that way. There are a lot of reference tables in the back that I have not seen elsewhere. I used this book a lot during the exam, along with my subject-specific books (thermo, kinetics, etc.).

Especially if you don't study much (like me). 90-95% of what you need for the exam is in here, and easily accessible. I did take in my unit ops textbook and separations text book, but only used them once or twice during the exam for more complex problems. Speed is key and this is where this manual will help you shine.

Hey Lindsey, why not mention what sections are missing? Would be helpful.Content is solid. My particular issue is that my book was poorly bound / glued and pages came loose. And, as anyone interested in this book would know, loose leaf pages are not allowed.Offer this book in a hardcover. Or, better yet, for $260 it should only come in a hardcover. A book like this should last for years.Cheap ass publisher.

If you were like me and sold your textbooks back in college, this book will help you pass the PE exam. It won't be your only book: a little light on reaction kinetics, and Perry's will have a good chunk of the answers as well, but overall a great reference. I used it as a study outline and then as a reference manual during the exam. Had no binding problems like one of the previous reviewers. Also holds its re-sale value, making the price sting a little bit less.

Many business books and articles have been written about what Phil Rosenzweig calls “the mother of all business questions… What leads to high performance?” This book explains why much of this analysis is “riddled with errors.”Using the examples of Cisco, ABB, and others, the author demonstrates the phenomenon. When times were good—strong revenue growth and a soaring stock price—these companies were praised for their exemplary strategy, culture, and CEO. When financial performance fell, the same strategy, culture, and CEO were ripped apart as severely flawed.Why does this happen? Because we love stories. “As long as Cisco was growing and profitable and setting records for its share price, managers and journalists and professors inferred that it had a wonderful ability to listen to its customers, a cohesive culture, and a brilliant strategy. And when the bubble burst, observers were quick to make the opposite attribution. It all made sense. It told a coherent story.”“Yet there’s a bit more to it. Our desire to tell stories, to provide a coherent direction to events, may also cause us to see trends that do not exist or infer causes incorrectly. We may ignore facts because they don’t fit into our story.”How does this happen? Introducing the Halo Effect. “During World War I, an American psychologist named Edward Thorndike was conducting research into the ways that superiors rate their subordinates. In one study, he asked army officers to rate their soldiers on a variety of features: intelligence, physique, leadership, character, and so on. He was struck by the results. Some men were thought to be ‘superior soldiers’ and were rated highly at just about everything, while others were thought to be subpar across the board… Thorndike called it the Halo Effect.”The Halo Effect is “a tendency to make inferences about specific traits on the basis of a general impression. It’s difficult for most people to independently measure separate features; there’s a common tendency to blend them together. The Halo Effect is a way for the mind to create and maintain a coherent and consistent picture to reduce cognitive dissonance… It’s also a heuristic, a sort of rule of thumb that people use to make guesses about things that are hard to assess directly.”“Fortune claims that the World’s Most Admired Company survey is ‘the definitive report card on corporate reputations.’ … For all the appearance of rigorous research—thousands of executives providing responses to nine separate questions, which are then combined for an overall ranking—there’s a serious Halo Effect. Respondents may be asked nine questions, but it’s unlikely that they have nine different opinions about the company. More likely is that one or two general impressions are expressed nine times. Moreover, the most important opinion is likely to be based on overall financial performance. Look at any company with healthy revenues and strong profits, and it’s likely that I’ll infer it has good management, high quality products, and more… Two different studies showed that a company’s financial performance explained between 42 and 53 percent of the variance of the overall rating.”“So many of the things that we—managers, journalists, professors, and consultants—commonly think contribute to company performance are often attributions based on performance.”This leads us to the Delusion of Correlation and Causality. “If we want to test whether customer orientation leads to high performance, the last thing we should do is ask managers: ‘How customer oriented is this company?’ We’re likely to get an attribution based on performance. To have any validity at all, we need to rely on measures that are independent of performance.”“But suppose we look at a measure that is not tainted by Halos—say the rate of employee turnover—and we find a high correlation with performance. Now the challenge is to untangle the direction of causality… As long as we gather data at one point in time—cross-sectionally—we won’t know.”“One way to improve our ability to explain causality is to gather data at different points of time so that the impact of one variable on some subsequent outcome can be more clearly isolated. This approach, called, longitudinal design, is more time-consuming and expensive to carry out, but it stands a better chance of avoiding mistaken inferences from simple correlation.”Next, there’s the Delusion of Absolute Performance. “Companies are often described as succeeding or failing on the merits of their actions alone, as if performance were absolute. But in a competitive market economy, the performance of one company is always affected by the performance of other companies.” It’s all relative.Kmart is a good illustration of this point. Kmart improved inventory turns from 3.45 in 1994 to 4.56 in 2002, a 32% improvement. Impressive, right? “Over the same eight years, Wal-Mart’s inventory turns went from 5.14 all the way to 8.08, up 63 percent. Wal-Mart had faster turns at the start of the eight-year period than Kmart had at the end. Kmart got better in absolute terms and yet fell further behind at the same time—and the gap between the two retailers was growing ever wider.”“The Delusion of Organizational Physics implies that the business world offers predictable results, that it conforms to precise laws. It fuels a belief that a given set of actions can work in all settings and ignores the need to adapt to different conditions: intensity of competition, rate of growth, size of competitors, market concentration, regulation, global dispersion of activities, and much more. Claiming that one approach can work everywhere, at all times, for all companies, has a simplistic appeal but doesn’t do justice to the complexities of business… Execution, like strategy, doesn’t lend itself to predictable cause-and-effect relationships.”The Delusion of Lasting Success: “In a free market system, high profits tend to decline thanks to what one economist called ‘the erosive forces of imitation, competition, and expropriation.’ Rivals copy the leader’s winning ways, new companies enter the market, consulting companies spread best practices, and employees move from company to company.”The book also includes: the Delusion of Single Explanations, the Delusion of Connecting the Winning Dots, the Delusion of Rigorous Research, and the Delusion of the Wrong End of the Stick.Rosenzweig hopes this book will “help managers think for themselves.”

In fact, just the opposite is true.
