I have been dying to get my hands on To Catch a Rogue since I finished reading You Only Love Twice! One of the Rogues had been captured by a very dangerous character and it had seemed that all was lost because the character had been taken to the Crimson Court. A court where there was no mercy and the Blue Bloods did as they pleased. There is no place more dangerous and it would be a foolish mistake to try and retrieve their comrade but that did not stop The Company of Rogues! You can see why I would be so very excited to read this book, it promised 1) search & rescue, 2) danger, boatloads of danger, and 3) second chances. There was so much to love in To Catch a Rogue! The company really pulled together in order to search for their friend and that led them into many dangerous and unexpected situations. Not only that, it seemed like their foe was always one step ahead of them spoiling their best laid plans. What an exciting read! Not only was the story entertaining, it also delved into Lark’s past and all her secrets were laid bare! Wow, Lark had much to hide and I had no idea that she had such a history in Russia. There were many surprising twists and turns in this story and the pages just flew by.I loved that in this story Charlie and Lark were back together working as a team. They were quite the dynamic duo when they were kids running around the rookeries but now things were very different as they had both grown up and their awareness of each other had taken on a new aspect. The attraction that was simmering between Charlie and Lark was very cute and I think was written just right for them. Overall, To Catch a Rogue was a great addition to this amazing series and I cannot wait for the next book!

Charlie and Lark were best friends before life and feelings got in the way. Almost three years later, they reconnect when Charlie seeks out Lark to ask for her assistance rescuing the Duke of Malloryn from somewhere in Russia. Due to her past, Lark isn’t thrilled, but neither will she willing let Charlie blindly brave a den of danger without watching his back.I loved Charlie and Lark! They both had some hard knocks from life, but each maintained an air of innocence with each other that gave their romance a sweetness I found adorable. Don’t get me wrong. These two had chemistry galore, yet I liked how McMasters tempered the sizzle with the sweet. She exposed emotions when least expected, thus drawing attention to what made Charlie and Lark mesh so well together and why they trusted one another so deeply.Aside from a wonderful couple, this book was action packed from the start to finish! Swords, knives, fists, duels, pistols (I love a good action sequence and there are plenty here!), then there are the secrets, rescues, betrayals, and one annoyingly cunning villain I hope gets his comeuppance like you wouldn’t believe...Book five is up next concerning the Duke of Malloryn and his wife. After everything that was revealed in To Catch a Rogue, I cannot wait to see how all the events through this series tie together! I’m sure it will be a doozie! If you haven’t tried steampunk, start with Bec McMaster! She is hands down my absolute favorite steampunk author-Phenomenal world building, great characters, and fantastic romance-what’s not to love?!

I enjoyed this book, but definitely not as much as I’ve enjoyed the ones previous to it. While I’ve always loved Charlie, I just felt like the first half of the book was too chaotic in its perspectives. Too many different POVs were happening throughout the book for me to really enjoy Lark and Charlie. As always, running thoughts:Yes yes yes yes yes. These are one of the few series that I could just read over and over againOh that’s right, I had forgotten that she died.Bum bum bum. I love Malloryn the most, I think. Probably because he’s all cold and untouchable and who doesn’t want to break a man like that.I’m not going to be super stoked if Charlie and Lark share this book with Obsidian. And Malloryn. And Gemma.I thought Lark was a baby when Tin Man went to Blade? At least a toddler. How can she have these memories?Of course Ava is kidnapped and pregnant. Girl has no luck. The story isn’t as controlled as it normally is. There are so many POVs going on, thats it’s not just Lark and Charlie. Which I can understand, the series is coming to a head, but it’s a little...chaotic.Wait, where are they right now? Because Gemma and Obsidian are still nearby, right?Ohhh. Ok. Still weird. I hope Gemma looks over the edge of the bridge.Herbert McHerbert. Oh my god, I’m dying.

This is a book that makes a lot of fundamental factual errors. For example, it identifies Neanderthals as being "a type of Homo sapiens," which like saying that gorillas are a type of baboon -- it's just flat out wrong. It also states that Homo sapiens have been around for a million years, which is not even close. The current estimate was 200,000 years, until the 2017 Moroccan find, which probably pushes the date back to 300,000 years. I guess it's a nice book if you don't read it, or if you don't mind colossal inaccuracies.

Five stars for the kids -- 5 yo girl / 2 yo boy. Strangely they pay full attention all the way to the boring end. Got me. I love the content. It's just a little dry for me, especially toward the end. It starts out with a brief introduction of human evolution. From there it covers homo sapiens history through the Bronze Age and beyond. Maybe. I can't remember. As soon as I fear the kids are getting bored with farming techniques and start to close it up, they ask me to keep going. Weird. But good. Yay!

I read this aloud to my eight-year-old boy, nine-year-old girl, and eleven-year-old girl as a component of human prehistory. For children to get the full use out of the book, to glean the full amount of information available in the pictures and text, they probably do need an adult to either read it to them or with them. The book led to great discussions about multiple subjects, such as how miserable life must have been before the discovery of fire, how such discoveries were likely made, etc. Great addition to our science library.

I got this for my 5 year old homeschooling son to complement our studies on pre-history and early man. Great introduction to the ancestors of man through beginning civilization. My son liked the pictures and they were very descriptive. He also liked the written text as well (I read the whole book to him over 2-3 evenings). We found this book interesting and engaging. Great addition to a secular education.

"Early People" follows human history from approximately four million years ago with the rise of Australopithicus to the beginning of the Iron Age 1,200 BC. Obviously, this is alot of history to cover in a 32 page book. "Early People" does a really good job of introducing young children to these topics. As with most books of this type, it relies heavily on illustrations. Kingfisher is the publisher of this book and they work with some of best children's book illustrators. These beautiful renderings should be able to pique the interest of any young child. Recommended.

I used this book as an introduction to early people for homeschool (kids age 7-11) and it was a wonderful springboard for many discussions. It would be excellent for a child to read on their own, or to use in a shared setting. The illustrations were engaging, I liked the clear and concise presentation for each time period and the flow from section to section felt like the right amount of info to not be overwhelming, but still get you through a large part of history quickly. Highly recommend!

Very good book for Elementary. Identifies the different early humans and identifies their tools, shelters, food, and lifestyles. Good illustrations.

Excellent book with very good illustrations. We bought this for a 6 year old boy. He has read & re-read it many times.
