Ralph and Karen Weekly are head coaches at the University of Tennessee, where they have led the Lady Vols to a staggering 514 wins since 2002. The duo has celebrated over 1,700 combined career victories and received numerous honors, including being named SEC Co-Coach of the Year twice and the NFCA Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2005, 2007, and 2010. They have led Tennessee to four top three national finishes in the annual Women's College World Series, to four NCAA Regional and Super Regional Championships, and have participated in the SEC Tournament nine times, including four championships. The two led Pacific Lutheran University to NAIA national championship titles in 1988 and 1992 and were named National Coaches of the Year during that time. The duo has had 40 All-SEC or All-Freshman selections, 34 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All Region selections, 21 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America selections, and 12 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American selections. Ralph Weekly enters his 11th season at Tennessee with a prestigious new accolade to include on his already impressive resume: The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently honored his efforts in a distinguished three-decade career with a 2011 induction into the NFCA Hall of Fame. During his 24-year coaching career, Ralph has been successful at every stop, amassing 1,015 overall collegiate victories and second most championships in both armed forces as well as international softball. Ralph has coached teams including the U.S. Air Force, Pacific Lutheran University, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and University of Tennessee. He was the hitting coach for the 1996 and 2000 U.S. Olympic softball teams, both of which received gold medals. From 1993 to 2000, he coached (as head or assistant coach) in 13 international events, winning the gold medal in each of them. Karen Weekly has experienced success both on the field and off, earning awards as a player and a coach. While at Pacific Lutheran University, she was an All-American softball player, led NAIA hitters with a .440 batting average, and was named Female Athlete of the Year. She was a national title-winning assistant coach at PLU in 1988 and 1992 and served as a championship head coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. High Scoring Softball IS my favorite softball book. It's formatted in short easy to read and comprehend segments. It has lots of illustrations and can be used as a step-by-step practice and orientation guide. I have bought several copies and given them to my coaching staff, friends who coach and new coaches as a excellent reference.

Karen and Ralph Weekly use what they write about. My daughter attended one of their summer camps and the skills and drills that she used at the camp are the exact same ones they mention. Did not even realize that the Crazy Olympics was part of the mental game drills. Excellent use for any serious softball player or coach who want to be at the elite level! My dauther's mental toughness dramatically increased after using these skills and we saw an immediate difference in her playing ability.

VERY GOOD INFO IN BOOK. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Have seen the Weekly's in person. This is a great reference after having that opportunity.

This has been my softball Bible since I've began coaching a few years ago. Definitely useful if you're coaching older girls. A lot of these drills are targeted for the seasoned players. The Weeklys have always been a succesful coaching duo. I read this probably once a year for a reminder course. Highly recommend.

I'm a select coach and have a lot of training books and this is one of the best. Great tips for every aspect of the game. Highly recommended.

Though I really enjoyed this book, it should be mentioned that the VHS cover art depicted within is from the UK. Being from the US, I did not recognize most of the art so this was not the nostalgia jam I was looking forward to. Nevertheless, this book is so well put together with each page showing full front, back and spine of the covers. I really hope that someone makes a book featuring American VHS cover art using this same format. It's a fantastic journey through a library of exciting, fantastic and lurid films with box art so enticing you'll want to take them to the checkout counter and rent them today!

 There is hardly anything to dislike about this unique book. Unique hardly describes it. If you are into 80's cinema, VHS or Beta, or anything relating to the 80's, this book is for you! It's 80's retro eye candy on steroids! Every high quality page is packed with visuals that take you to a familiar past. The nostalgia factor alone is worth the price of the book. This one sits proudly in my office! Please see the included video for a brief overview of this fantastic book.

If you love VHS artwork, buy this immediately. What makes this book special is that the majority of it is 1) very rare VHS titles with beautiful and often hilarious artwork and 2) if you grew up in the US like me, a lot of covers are burned into your memory, these are all UK VHS covers so you get to see alternate designs for films, the alternate artwork for "Troll" is especially hilarious. The layout and design of the book is beautiful and the VHS covers span all genres, comedy, horror, action, thriller, ect. Tom Hodge the author also does a little homework too and provides the distributors, years, alternate titles, and artists of the VHS covers to go with each title displayed. Tom Hodge is one of the great up and comers in the film poster art business and is always in demand, you may have seen his original work for posters to such films as "Hobo with a Shotgun" and "Almost Human", he has a very distinguished style. Buy this book before it's out of print, much like the only other previous VHS cover-art book "Portable Grindhouse."

Amazing. As someone born right at the dawn of the VHS era, many of my happy memories from childhood are going to the local video store to rent a movie or a nintendo game, and since that was before AV Club or Rotten Tomatoes you had no way of knowing if a movie was crap, so the crappiest movies (and during the straight to VHS craze there were MANY crappy movies) competed for attention by having the most exciting, outrageous covers, leading to a fairly unique form of art and presentation. This book does such a good job of collecting amazing cover art from this era. The nostalgia is so hard it hurts. I collect a lot of photo and art books, and this has immediately become one of my favorites in my collection.

I got this book as inspiration for my art -- a handy reference which would keep me from having to dig through my VHS collection to find a muse -- What I got was so much more than that. The thing I wasn't expecting and ended up loving was being able to read the back of each box! It made me remember what it was like being a kid in my local mom and pop video store. The fact that the art depicted in the book are from video releases in the UK made it that much more exciting to me because I've hardly ever seen any of these covers before. Also, I'm pretty sure that Graham Humphreys is my new favorite artist. Thank you Thomas Hodge for curating such a fascinating book!

Lots and lots of classic (and obscure) cover art, most are the English versions (and added plus for a Yank like myself.) Reproduction of the art is first class. as always, would have liked to see even more.

This is a fantastic book of cover art put together by Tom Hodge, a man responsible for some of my favorite movie posters (he's responsible for the Hobo with a Shotgun poster) so you already know he's the perfect person to put this together. I absolutely love this book. My only gripe is the binding feels a bit weak. I'm a bit scared to open it more than a few times. Could just be my copy but even if the binding wears out I'll still love this book.

Liked the slowly unfolding storyline which sees John Godwin emerge as an even stronger PI than before. I like the characters - even Zeke the mean detective. The series is very interesting.

Average writer, states the obvious too often and repeats the storyline to expand the pages.Glad it’s finished.Wouldn’t read another by this author.

Chase has another mystery with a very unusual caused of death. Makes for a better read than the usual serial killer novels. The character give a refreshing feel from police procedural to a more observational problem solver without the computer spitting out suspects. I'm glad there is more to the series.

I would like to recommend this book to everyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting new story where the action never stops. I have found that these books are very hard to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.

Micro waves as a killer's weapon, that's a fresh way of killing. The use by a sophisticated gang member takes you to a more modern criminal mindset with technology as it's forte.

Good read. The dynamics of the book are the same John and max working the case. They complement each other very well.

Good book, easy reading, and believable. Not a shoot um up action thriller but good entertainment. . . . .

Ok, but no better than the first book, perhaps even less probable.

For ten years he lived in the Solentiname islands in Lake Nicaragua, where he established a community of artists, writers, and peasants. It was destroyed by the army. After the overthrow of the Somoza dictatorship, Father Cardenal served as Minister of Culture in the Sandinista government. His many books include Abide in Love. He lives in Managua.

If giving stars refers to how much you LIKE a book, it is very hard to give stars here. Solentiname is a fascinating document and this is a very good, readable translation; however, while his book raises an abundance of questions, Cardenal himself falls a long way short in his understanding of the gospel; indeed, he specifically rejects key historical Christian doctrines, notably the redemptive death of Jesus and the resurrection. However he does come well prepared in terms of learning to guide his unlearned friends in their comments on the gospels, and there is much of great interest in the people's responses; they are often very insightful. My two abiding memories of the book are these: 1. There is a discussion about an American preacher on the radio in Managua who talks 'very sweetly' about 'being saved' - but does this touch people's real needs? (it doesn't seem to.) What does the 'gospel', the 'good news' really mean in Central America? 2. Cardenal constantly pushes the discussion away from spiritual need to inveighing against social injustice, while at least some of the campesino commentators are more interested in Jesus. In the end he seems to support the violent overthrow of the corrupt Nicaraguan government, and his outlook actually seems ( I would need to check this properly) implicated in sending young men to violent deaths.In summary, very important issues are raised and, particularly when Cardenal does not push discussion of Bible passages in his personal direction too much, the people have much to say.

I almost let this book stay on the shelf. What a mistake that would have been! I shall be reading it for years. It is the discussion by simple people of gospel passages. The "characters" in the gospel passages were simple people. We tend to forget that and in the process often miss the message. Here's what William had to say about the Our Father: We pray to God for his name to be holy, and it's up to us to make his name holy. We pray for his kingdom to come, and it's up to us to build it. We pray that his will be done on earth, and it's up to us to do his will. We pray to him for bread, and it's up to us to make it and share it We pray to him for forgiveness, and it's up to us to forgive. We pray not to fall into evil, and it's up to us to escape from it.Ernesto Cardenal provides solid biblical scholarship to the discussion, and he weaves the comments together with sensitivity. He is, after all, a poet.

I have read in this book, not yet all parts. When I pick it up I read the section that appeals to me at the moment. The exploration of meaning by the campensinos led by Cardenal is eye opening and thought provoking. Anyone interested in reading the Bible while trying to understand what it can mean for different audiences should definitely read this book. Especially, if you are interested in liberation theology, you will find this rich and rewarding and putting into concrete lives things that may have seemed kind of abstract. So, maybe it should have 5 stars.

This book was recommended to me as one that widens the perspective of insight and the understanding of the New Testament. It does widen the perspective, but only within the confines of the traditional and rather mystical beliefs that accompany Christianity. It invites for similar work to be done in the wider perspective of humanism and human consciousness.

I am delighted to see this book back in print. The Gospel in Solentiname helps us re-read the Gospels through the eyes of Nicaraguan peasants. Their observations may come as a shock to those reading the same texts in a affluent suburban context. Rather than be dismissive or critical of these perceptions of the Gospel narratives, we should remember that Scripture was written from the perspective of the poor and the oppressed, and tells the story of a God who acts on their behalf. While liberation theology (like any theology) is not without its shortcomings, it is an important voice for the Church to hear. A wonderful new edition, containing wonderful art to go along with wonderful words.

From a theological point of view, there is very little merit. NEVERTHELESS, Gutierrez, is HIGHLY deceitful about his secular political leanings.Marxism IS the theological lens through which Liberation Theology is read. Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI are to be commended for their condemnation of Gutierrez, along with Leonardo Boff, Ernesto Cardenal and Jon Sobrino. Castro, the Sandanistas and Hugo Chavez RAPED their nations' economies. The Nicaraguans and Venezuelans CANNOT now blame America for their continued economic disasters. Now, that diplomatic relations with Cuba are being restored, ONCE AGAIN it will be demonstrated that ONLY AMERICAN free enterprise will bring prosperity to the Cuban masses. The MOST prosperous Latin American nations ( Brazil, Argentina, etc) with the MOST free trade.NONE of these priests will own up to the reality that traditional Iberian Catholicism brought feudalism to the southern hemisphere. Not in a negative sense but the depth of the research done into Michael Jordan's lineage is far more extensive than that presented in Showboat. I think it also reflects the need to get the full context to try to encompass one of the most celebrated and successful sports figures ever. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and left with even greater appreciation for MJ's staggering success and the extremely good fortune he had due to a few key figures in his life.

Fans all have favorite memories; his game-winning basket for the national title at UNC, the flu game, the jams, the high scores. I was a kid of the 90s, the Jordan generation and spent countless hours pounding a basketball in my backyard, terrorizing my parents with constant thuds as I executed passes to myself off the house walls before driving to my hoop, red, over-sized Bulls jersey worn constantly, emblazoned predictably with the iconic '23'. Jordan brings back memories of school holidays, carefree times and childhood innocence.That's why going back and reading this comprehensive Jordan biography as an adult was both refreshing and insightful, even though it is difficult to find a more exposed or covered sports star in our time. What more could there possibly be to say? But that I think is the beauty of this book - it doesn't have any earth shattering revelations, or new exclusive, but it is comprehensive and brings all the stories together in one.It meant that I could revisit Jordan's history, learn about the formative years before he was the global megastar (and while I was just a toddler on the other side of the world) and contextualize his accomplishments. In particular it gives great insight into the mythical tale of the high school coach who "dropped Jordan from his team" (so much more complex than it gets presented as and in fact that coach had a huge influence on Jordan and great relationship).As a fan it's easy to look back on the six championships of the Bulls era and assume they were a highly performing, high achieving team celebrating each others success. They were in fact almost dysfunctional and at each other constantly. But it was that competitiveness, that feeling of being slighted that drove Jordan and in turn made Jordan challenge and push his teammates.It's a wonderful insight into the personality of someone extraordinary. Jordan is regularly described as a difficult teammate, someone who couldn't understand people accepting less than the best or not working as hard as possible, someone who put in more time and effort than seemed sustainable, had no tolerance for fools and could generally be rude, introverted, untrusting and mercenary in dealing with people to get what he wanted. I could not help thinking afterwards the similarity in personality between Jordan and revered business figures of our time - Jobs, Bezos, Musk - who all demonstrate an almost identical personality.It's certainly not all rosy - the gambling, the messy family situation, etc - but I think this is what makes it an even more important read for people like me who grew up with Jordan and still revere him as the greatest of all time.In summary, I would say that I started the booking thinking whether I really need to invest in almost 700 pages of Jordan history but it didn't take long to develop into a compelling read and one that helped fill in a number of blanks beyond the mainstream memories of a generation and round out the story.

This is a very good book. It is well laid-out and cover the subject well. I like the cookbook format. I have already used several of the recipes. Cricket works for Infoblox. Infoblox sells an industry leading DNS appliance, which I highly recommend. I have worked with DNS since 1996 and have met Cricket. He really knows the subject matter. I wish him well.

When I learned that Ryan Grant was publishing the great works of Catholic theology that he is in English for the first time under the imprint "Mediatrix Press," I was interested, but I also had reservations about the fact that it is a self-publishing venture. This was the first Mediatrix Press book I read. Sadly, it has made clear that Grant's translation skills are not up to the task he has set himself. I will give a few representative examples of the mistakes in diction and in simple comprehension of Bellarmine's Latin that occur all throughout the book.In chapter 1, Bellarmine cites an analogy from St Augustine about how when you build a house, you have to build the foundation, then the walls, and then, as Grant has it, "the roof and different hardware." Hardware? Surely what Bellarmine expects to be installed after the roof is what we would call the FURNITURE, even if "hardware" would be a perfectly apt translation of the word "instrumenta" in another context. Incidentally, Grant here repeats Bellarmine's citation of Augustine, "Ser. 22 de verb. Domini."; a reference to a modern edition, which would number this sermon 20/A, would have been welcome. In chapter 2, Bellarmine mentions the divine nature and proceeds to give a definition of it, introduced by the idiomatic phrase "hoc est," meaning "that is" (Oxford Latin Dictionary "hic" 10c). But Grant translates it literally as "this is": "accordingly it could only be one true Godhead, this is, only one nature and essence, infinite power..."And yet what Bellarmine actually said is that the divine nature is infinitely powerful. While Bellarmine would certainly confess that God's nature is His infinite power (infinita potestas), here he has used an adjective (potens) to modify the predicate "nature and essence," modified by the adverb "infinitely" (infinite).This literalism continues to mar the translation in chapter III, when St Robert begins to explain the Apostles' Creed. To the question of why God is called the Father, Grant has him say that God is the Father of Jesus Christ by nature; "the Father of all goods" by adoption; and the Father of all creatures by creation. But in this context, we must understand "bonorum" as meaning "the Father of all the good," or better, "the Father of all good men."Grant's weakness in basic Latin grammar then makes a muddle of an analogy involving a soldier. Here is what Bellarmine has written: "But if you shall say that God is not able to die or to sin, and therefore cannot do all things; I respond, that to be able to die and to sin is not power, but weakness, and if it should be said of a certain pugnacious soldier, that he can conquer all, and cannot be conquered by anyone, certainly nothing is taken away from the strength of that man by saying that he cannot be conquered, because to be able to be conquered is not strength, but weakness."Grant has: "But if someone would say that God cannot die or sin, so He can't really do everything; then I answer that to die and sin are not in potency, but impotency, and if one were to speak about any aggressive soldier you like, that he cannot conquer all things nor indeed can be conquered by any one, then one has not really detracted from his strength by saying that he cannot be conquered, because to be conquered is not strength but weakness."First of all, the phrase "not in potency, but impotency" cannot be passed over in silence. Perhaps it was influenced by a misguided idea that we are dealing here with the Scholastic metaphysical concept of potency and and act. But what's much worse is that Grant has made the analogy about the soldier rather confusing by changing him from an invincible soldier who can conquer all into an invincible soldier who can conquer only some. Evidently he has some concept that "nec" means "nor," but doesn't realise that it doesn't have to join two clauses that are both negated as in "neither...nor."In a question about how Christ could die when he is God, Bellarmine writes in explanation of Christ's two natures: "In quantum porro Deus est, non potest pati nec mori: in quantum autem homo est, pati morique potest." That is, "moreover, inasmuch as he is God, he can neither suffer nor die: inasmuch, however, as he is a man, he can suffer and die." Grant amazingly turns Bellarmine's attention to the immortality of the divine nature, having him write: "Again, insofar as God is, He can neither suffer nor die, but insofar as He is man, He can suffer and die." I really do not know how Grant muddled through the book if a clause like "[Christus] Deus est" caused him such difficulties.In the immediately following question, Grant does not seem to understand what Bellarmine is saying about Christ's atonement. The question is why so many men are damned if Christ has made satisfaction for the sins of all. Bellarmine writes, "Christ indeed has abundantly made satisfaction for the sins of all men, but all the same it is necessary for that satisfaction to be applied by this man and by that one to himself in particular." In his translation, Grant capitalises "Himself," indicating that it is necessary that each man apply Christ's sacrifice to Christ.In another question, it is asked whether Christ is said to sit at the right hand of the Father "in quantum Deus solum est, an vero etiam in quantum homo?", that is, "only inasmuch as he is God, or also inasmuch as he is man?" Grant writes, "insofar as He alone is God." If "solum" were an adjective meaning "alone," it would have to be "solus" to agree with the subject "Christus" (just as the predicate "Deus" does). If morphology did not reveal this adverb's meaning to Grant, the context should have.Examples could be multiplied, like when Grant uses the word "His" not understanding that the pronoun "cuius" refers to the theological virtue of faith rather than God. Ultimately, enough of the meaning gets through that you can learn from this book. The only translation choice that really suggests theological error is when Bellarmine says the grace of forgiveness of sins cannot be found outside the Church, and it is translated in a way that can be taken to mean no grace at all can be found outside the Church. Still, the translation repeatedly makes you hope there has been some mistake and an early draft has been published as the Kindle edition, as the note-to-self "[revise]" that has been left in the text suggests. In my opinion, your money is better spent on a Latin textbook so you can read Bellarmine yourself.

This book was recommended by Rorate Caeli. I have not read it yet. But being that they recommend it, it is sure to be authentical Catholic teaching. Thank you & God bless.

This, to me, is NOT 150 activities. The first 150+pages are divided into four sections: a dozen or so recipes for slime, a dozen or so recipes for play-dough, several different recipes for paint, and several different ideas for playscapes. To me, those are variations on 4 activities, not 100 or so different things to occupy a kid. So disappointing.If I had been looking for a book full of ways to make my own slime/paint/play-doh, I might have liked this book. As it is, though, I find it pretty useless.

I honestly expected completely different content based off the title. I didn't read any reviews. Most of the book is more of a recipe book for baby/kid safe playing material (foam, goo, slime, paints). It's a very artsy crafty book but extremely well organized and if you have the time & interest I think it could be a great addition to your book collection. The chapters each begin with an introduction and the authors experience and tips. The chapters are: slimes, doughs, paints, small worlds, simple sensory activities, and do it yourself toys. Each activity lists prep time, ages (baby/toddler/preschoolers/5+) ingredients/supplies, detailed instructions, and what I like is that there are also variations/troubleshooting/budget tips. It also lists if it's dye free, taste safe, dairy/gluten/egg/soy etc free. Also there are instructions on turning what you make into art. The book ends with information on the science behind the activities, where to find supplies, and additional resources. If you're looking for activities for your kids to do on their own this is not the book. These are activities that require your involvement and can end up being very messy. The recipes are easy and simple and cost friendly. Most of the items you'll probably have and need to only get one or two others. For the right family this book is great for others it will be useless.I bought this cheap little pen to help contain some of my toddlers activities. I have purchased several kinds of these books, but this one has quickly become my favorite! First. I love that the author has taken the time to breakdown each activity according to a simple key highlighting if it's something safe to taste, and if it contains dyes or allergens. The pictures are great, simple, but easy enough to see what the end product should/could look like and each activity has at least one picture. I appreciate each activity has a very easy guide for how long it will take to make/prep, and what ages it would be best for. I have done at least 10 projects and they have all been huge hits with my toddler, make me look like mother of the year, but really aren't a lot of work. I love that my little one is learning through play, and I really love that the ingredients list doesn't contain a long list of ingredients that are hard to find. This is the book to buy if you are looking for crafty, fun, and sensory projects for your little one, don't look any further, just buy it. I would say most of these activities are best suited for toddlers to early school age, but I could definitely see some use for older elementary school age children as well.

Not very thrilled with this book. It's not 150 "different" activities it's 100 ways to make playdough/cloud dough and then the rest are repeated activities in different variations. Not what I was looking for at all.

I am an occupational therapist so there were a lot of things in this book I have seen before, it has great recipes for moon sand, paint and doughs . Good book for sensory play, however I was looking for more varied types of activities like crafts and holiday/season specific games or activities. I like how it labels each activity with allergy information and advice of appropriate age for each activity.

What an amazing resource for fun things to do with your kids! I purchased all three books and I must say they are all wonderful and well worth the investment. We have completed several of the projects already and plan to do some every week. There are so many fun things and variations that it will take us all year to complete and then we can start all over again! What I love most about the projects is most of them use every day things you have at your house and if you don't have something it's not an expensive item to buy especially if you are a member of Sams or Costco. I highly recommend the liquid watercolors as they are fun to work with, do not stain and have a much more vibrant color. I honestly don't know who is having more fun, the kids playing in all of our creations or me getting to prepare and make the projects! It is fun for the entire family and gives you plenty to do inside or outside. The learning that happens is absolutely wonderful!!

I love this book. I first checked it out at the library to see if I wanted to pay full price for it and I didn't hesitate. I particularly like the small worlds but will be trying more sensory stuff as well. I did try the chia seed water beads but was unsuccessful. I've since tried 2-3 other sensory activities that were hits. This is my new go to book for my 3 and 5 year olds. They love the small worlds and buying the little toob animals to go along with it is well worth it. Hours of fun. You add library books on all the animals from the small world and there is so much learning going on amidst the playing. Genius of the author! There are somethings in the book I won't be trying but that's okay. There's a ton I will! I will say this book is not for everyone. You have to be okay with messy and be willing to put some work into the activities the first time around. But well worth it!
