I was fortunate to be selected to be part of the launch team for Shaken by Tim Tebow in exchange for my honest review. I have read Shaken and my honest review is what follows.I am sure you have heard of Tebowing and seen photos of the ‘John 3;16’ written in eye black in the NCAA National Championship game in January 2009 to draw attention to this verse of scripture. Tim Tebow is why you are aware of these two phenomena. In Shaken, Tim Tebow’s second book, you will learn interesting facts about these two events he is known for but much more about who Tim Tebow is and what makes him tick. One of the categories this book is listed under is Christian Living and you will learn more about Christian Living from his life experience, much he has never shared before.This is not a biography but does contain biographical glimpses from his young life so far and his perspective or the rest of the story behind these experiences. If you are a Tim Tebow fan from his college days at Florida or one of his professional teams you will want to read this book. It begins describing his gut-wrenching kick in the teeth when he was cut from the New England Patriots and his story weaves back and forth through his career on the field and his off the field activities which will have a much more lasting effect on those involved and you as well after you read and learn more about those.I was not a Tim Tebow fan when he was in college since his Florida Gators were a chief rival of my favorite college team, the Alabama Crimson Tide. In his first book he described his decision choosing between these two schools as the one he would attend and play for. I was glad Alabama did beat Tim Tebow and Florida in the 2009 SEC Championship and go on to win the National Championship that year following Florida doing the same, with Tebow leading the way, in the 2008 season. I did respect him and what he had accomplished and what he stood for as a Christian. I just was not a fan.However, since that time I have become a Tim Tebow fan because of his witness as a Christian. We are brothers in Christ and our paths may never cross in this life but I know they will in the future we will both share in Heaven. That is why I wanted to read this book and am glad I did. Here are some of the highlights and quotes for me from Shaken.Highlights and quotes:“If we can understand everything about the God we serve, what kind of god would that be?â€â€œThere will always be people in your life who will underestimate your potential, say that you'll never reach your dream or make that goal, or try to hold you back in some way.â€â€œIt might surprise you to know that some of the deepest wounds I've experienced have come from fellow Christians.â€â€œDon't get sidetracked by those who don't believe in you or by those who don't understand what it is you are doing. Whenever you dare to do something different, critics of some sort are bound to show up.â€The title of the book is taken from this scripture verse,“I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.†Psalm 16:8If you have followed his career you know he has had many opportunities to be shaken. When you read this book you will see he has been shaken but his life is about much more than the public perception as portrayed in the media. How he has responded to these life events is inspirational and will give you hope. His message of good news and his faith journey might change your life.I encourage you to get Shaken today. Tim Tebow is quite the person and his book is just as good. This book recounts his athletic feats and failures from youth to professional while revealing his upbringing and his Christian beliefs. As the son of Missionaries , Tim Tebow from a young age has been taught to put others first , appreciate your God-given gifts and to give back. He relates stories of children with terminal illness that he has befriended and visits to Prisons in the Phillipines, Thailand and in Florida. He covers his time with the Denver Broncos, New York Jets and training camps with the Patriots and Eagles. Though he is covered often by the media, you will learn more from this book about the man, his faith and his beliefs. Each chapter is started with an inspirational saying and Chapter 9 quotes Pablo Picasso; " action is the key to all success'. This quote certainly is good advice and applies to the life of Tim Tebow. He is a man deeply rooted in his faith who lives his life in accordance with it. This book is an inspirational, informative read that should be read by anyone experiencing storms in their life or is looking for a great role model. Recommended.
This is by far one of the most relatable books I've ever read. Tim speaks of his ups and downs through his NFL career, and everything he says hits so close to home. This book has made me cry several times, but it's all truth. This book makes you want to go out and encourage others. Such an inspiring book. I've struggled with my relationship with God with all I've dealt with and this book is allowing my faith to grow, allowing me to work on my relationship with God, and it's helping me to see the positive in a negative situation. It's helped to me to fully trust God through everything! I recommend buying this if you're struggling with anything in your life. Definitely will be purchasing for gifts :)
