This book is a very well rounded and well written review of the art and architecture of Africa. It is very eye opening about the artistic abilities of these ancient people. It even goes beyond what we know about their construction. You find that awe-inspiring palaces were not confined to Egypt and the rest of North Africa, but advanced societies had flourished apart from the rest of the world. I really don't want to give away any of the details, but you won't regret the purchase of this book.

You will not want to miss this terrific novel. Liberty Down is one heck of a roller coaster read filled with intrigue, a bit of violence and a slight touch of romance? It all begins with The Jefferson Group on a European vacation. Dr. Higgins, Neil, and Jonas are in Austria. Top and Gaucho are in Amsterdam with Cal, Diane, Daniel and Cal’s puppy, Liberty, enjoying the sights of Paris. Suddenly, everything spins downward as an old secret enemy tries to take the Jefferson Group down and out. Throw in a U.S. Presidential race, a terror plot in Paris, a Lamborghini or two, a couple of new friends and for Daniel, a lady from his past, and you have a perfect recipe for excitement. If you are already familiar with Corps Justice, you know to expect the unexpected twists and turns as the story unfolds. If you haven’t read any of C.G. Cooper’s work, this novel is the perfect one to begin with because you will meet the main players. I found this book so entertaining that after reading it; I turned right around and read it again. Thank you Mr. Cooper for what very well may be your finest work!

The members of The Jefferson Group (TJG) and Diane are on vacation in Europe: Cal, Diane and Daniel are in Paris... MSgt Trent and Gaucho are visiting Amsterdam... Neil, Jonas and Dr. Higgins are on a working vacation in Vienna... Congressman Antonio McNight continues his plans to become the next president... Someone wants to take out TPG and ruin President Brandon Zimmer before the upcoming election...The thirteenth book of the CORPS JUSTICE series starts out at an easy pace with everyone enjoying a well-earned break. Then the action picks up at breakneck speed and I was lost in the book. This was the most intense book (so far) in the series, but I think each book gets better. Mr. Cooper is a clever storyteller and knows how to keep the reader's attention — and there are always twists I did not see coming! Just when I think I have everything figured out, something unexpected happens... I love this series!

This book starts off with The Jefferson Group enjoying vacation time in Europe. Then everything changes and what happens next is non-stop action and drama and a couple of moments where I was sitting on the edge of my seat as my heart just about stopped, thinking "NO!!! Please don't let that happen!!" Of course with moments like those you just can't stop reading. This is what I love about CG Cooper's books. They have twists and turns that make it next to impossible to put the books down. Thanks for another great read!!

Usually you’d never read a series without starting at the beginning. But, if you happened to pick up Liberty Down as your intro to Cal Stokes and his family of good friends, this is one of the few books that brings into focus each person’s role & relationship without starting at Book 1. I’m not suggesting that by any means, but I will say books 10-12 were very political and, to me, lost some of the story telling. Now, Liberty Down brings back the warmth and true spirit created by Cooper when he began this series. I think this is one of my favorite books since I started with the first. The team players are all on vacation. You know, it’s never a real vacation. While they’re out of the country during this election year, President Zimmer becomes the target. Someone wants him out of The White House. The ammunition? Stokes and company. A MUST read :)

I thoroughly enjoyed "Liberty Down", another great story from C.G.Cooper. This time, The Jefferson Group has split up to go on vacation in Europe and then find it cut short when they all discover they're being tracked and their top-secret network hacked and shut down. There is no communication and trying to coordinate the three groups is impossible. Why are they being followed and investigated by a source they can't identify?The author shares legitimate details about Vienna, Paris and Amsterdam in the story which gives readers a little peek at those cities. It's the first time that the Jefferson Group is on the defensive side of the ball without available resources. The story is action packed and edge of your seat suspense. And, oh yeah, Daniel has a girlfriend - showing readers his gentile side.While the teams scramble to solve their dilemma, readers learn that the reason for the teams' misfortune is politically motivated. It's the final week before the upcoming Presidential election...who is pulling the strings and why?Great job Mr. Cooper! I look forward to your next story! Outstanding and accessible book that fleshes out the history of human genetics in the recent past, much of which was firsthand as Dr. Collins has a large role to play in this story. This is not a history though, but rather gleans from some big revelations and technological developments over the past three decades the overarching themes that we now know as personalized medicine (or even more recently, precision medicine). Delving into a wealth of data and with remarkable clarity, Collins demonstrates the absolute necessity for medicine to move into new paradigms that harness personalized medicine.In a fairly salient moment of the book, Collins sends his DNA to three genotyping companies (23andme, Decode, and Navigenics) and gets three different answers as to his chances of getting prostate cancer. He then sifts through the meaning of these predictions and clearly explains why the current state of affairs needs so much work. Future doctors, policy makers, or patients would do well to read and re-read this book.

This is an excellent read! Francis Collins does an outstanding job at presenting complex DNA material in a simplified way for any student or learner in any discipline or field of expertise. Although Collins is a world-class scientist, He does not use technical language, but rather presents a clear case for personalized medicine in common language. In essence, Collins demonstrates that the days are coming when individual DNA analysis to determine predispositions towards certain illnesses will be as common as a physical check-up. In other words, DNA screening will be used to help determine the likelihood of someone falling victim to future diseases and sicknesses.In layman terms, the days are coming when you will have the option to know if you are prone toward cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Francis Collins suggests that future DNA analysis may be used for certain preventative measures. While some may not have an interest in knowing their potential future health condition (que sera sera), others will. I, personally, am of the latter mindset. I prefer to know what my potential future holds in terms of health. In this way, I can do my best to prevent certain diseases as a good steward of the body God has given me. I think my wife, children and friends deserve it.

The Language of Life was one of the best-written books I've read on personal genomics and the future of genetic medicine. It is written by Francis Collins, an obvious pioneer in the field, who now has an extremely influential position in American science. The book gives an overview of many of the important genomic advances through Collins' eyes, giving a personal touch on the science. It is very interesting how Collins describes how he has subjected himself to various personal genomic tests and he explains in simple language what they meant to him. In particular, Collins relates many examples of where genetic knowledge is powerful in terms of individual people's livelihood. For instance, he tells the story a woman finding out that her family was afflicted by long Qt interval, which causes sudden death and the way they tried to watch for this (eg home defibrillator) . He tells how genomics is redefining ancestry with a story about a prominent individual that thought he was black but didn't turn out to have much African DNA. There is one small sloppiness that I uncovered in the book: Collin's saying that John Nash won a Nobel for mathematics. (He actually won the prize in economics.)

Dr. Collins is exceptionally qualified to write a book of this nature and he has made the contents have real life texture with the examples he uses. He does a very good job of giving you a feel of the future direction and the pace of development that is going on in genetics as it relates to medicine. His discussion of the variability in the effectiveness of medicines is particularly captivating. He provides the tools you need to understand the material as a layman.

A very interesting subject. That Francis S. Collins is an expert on the subject.

There was a lot of interesting information in this book, although much of it was anecdotal. My main reason for giving it only 3 stars however, is that I often felt I was reading an advertisement or at least a cheerleading piece for the wonders of personalized medicine. Don't get me wrong, I think there is a lot of potential in this field and it is very exciting the new discoveries that are coming on line, but I felt we aren't quite as there as this book might make a reader think.For instance, the author downplays the fact that 2 of the 3 DNA tests he got gave conflicting results as to whether or not he was more or less likely to get a particular disease. He knows enough about the subject to find out which is correct. But how about the layman? Or the person who only orders one test? Since his premise is that people might be more inclined to change their behavior if they knew their medicial risks, couldn't this very well lead to exactly the wrong kind of change, or less severe but still an obvious lost opportunity, no changes or a false sense of security where some changes would have been beneficial?I also am not convinced that people will make long term behavior changes based on their DNA reading if they're not willing to make them based on family history or doctor's advice, especially as for most conditions the changes are generally still eat healthier, exercise more and don't smoke.However, if you've not read anything else on the topic, it's an easy and accessible introduction. I would also recommend the $1000 Genome if you are interested in this topic.

This book explains many ways our physical body is affected by that which we receive from our ancestors. I'm amazed at the wealth of knowledge this field of scientific investigation has produced. Brilliant writing on some of the best songs ever written. Always unique and insightful tales of the origins of a song. Not to be missed if you like songs and music. A small book, perfect for pairing with a Spotify or Pandora Binge during those long dark wet winter months. Great writing, as good as the songs themselves. Like, who knew that ... oh, but you have to read it for yourself. No spoiler alerts from me. LOL. ; ))

This is a great book. I heard about it in the Life of a Song podcast and decided to buy it. If you enjoy music it is a must have. The stories about each song are interesting and well written and the book covers a variety of musical genres. So glad I bought it.

About the Author

Robert P. George holds Princeton's celebrated McCormick Chair in Jurisprudence and is the Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. He has served as chairman of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, and before that on the President’s Council on Bioethics and as a presidential appointee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He has also served as the U.S. member of UNESCO’s World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology. His many books include In Defense of Natural Law; Making Men Moral; Embryo: A Defense of Human Life; What is Marriage? Man and Woman: A Defense. A graduate of Swarthmore College, he holds J.D. and M.T.S. degrees from Harvard University and the degrees of D.Phil., B.C.L., and D.C.L. from Oxford University. R. J. Snell directs the Center on the University and Intellectual Life at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, NJ. Prior to this appointment he was for many years Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Philosophy Program at Eastern University and the Templeton Honors College, where he founded and directed the Agora Institute for Civic Virtue and the Common Good. A convert to Catholicism, he grew up Baptist and received his early education at the schools of Prairie Bible Institute and Liberty University.
